How To Prepare To Go Camping
If you love to be out in nature, then you likely take every opportunity to go camping that you can. While exploring the terrain and learning about new areas can make for a great time, nothing will ruin your trip faster than not being adequately prepared. Here are some ways you can better prepare for your next camping trip.
Pack Enough Food
Camping and hiking often go hand in hand. When you’re out hiking, you’re burning more calories than you might typically, which means you need more food to keep you going. Perhaps you hope to fish or hunt while you’re camping and use that for your food. While that is a great idea, it’s not always a guarantee. It’s always better to err on the safe side and bring more food than you need. You can always just take it back home if you have things leftover at the end of your trip.
Bring Protection
While wildlife attacks on humans are rare, they have been known to happen. You could accidentally come across a bear cub, which might cause the mother bear to attack you. Or, food might be scarce in the area, and a mountain lion could look at you as a tasty meal.
No matter the situation, you want to ensure that you’re ready for anything. Make sure that you’re comfortable with the weapon you choose and that you have a safe way to carry it on your body. For example, if you take a firearm with you, concealment jackets are an excellent way to keep the weapon out of your way while still allowing you easy access to it.
Wear Layers
The weather can rapidly change when you’re out in the wilderness, so you always want to wear layers. Camping experts recommend packing a light layer of clothing, a warmer coat or sweater to wear on top, and a final waterproof layer to put on top of everything. That way, you can take off layers as needed, and you don’t have to worry about wearing wet clothes for the duration of your camping adventure.
